FMLN calls for EU Electoral Observers

The Constitutional/Electoral Reforms Legislative Commission of the FMLN party met withthe European Union Electoral Observation Mission to ask for delegates to help with the issue of transparency in the upcoming election.

FMLN representative Walter Durán affirmed that the latest reforms to the Electoral Code reflect the judicial and political institutional weakness of the Salvadoran Electoral System- specifically citing the declaration that revoked the requirement of a Judicial Review Board signature on each ballot.

The FMLN representative denounced the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) as having a “passive attitude’ toward unconstitutional propaganda and other code violations.

Guillermo Gallegos , a representative of the ARENA party, accused the FMLN of double discourse, saying that the FMLN was getting nervous as ARENA gains momentum in the polls.

Gallegos supports the EU observers but says the TSE is really the only entity with the authority to call official observers to the election.
